Janice Kelsey of Glenmoore has been nominated by two international trade associations for an award to recognize her global leadership in promoting clean, affordable, accessible[LH1] fuel to rural communities.
Kelsey[LH2] has been nominated as a finalist in the AD and Biogas Industry Awards 2023 by the Anaerobic Digestion & Bioresources Association and the World Biogas Association for her work as co-founder and director of Solar CITIES.[LH3]
Solar CITIES, a Chester County non-profit organization, promotes small-scale biodigestors which convert waste (animal, human, food, and agricultural) into clean fuel for heating and cooking.
“The small scale allows anyone to be fuel-independent,” said Kelsey. “My kitchen stove and my grill both run on biogas!” And it means waste doesn’t end up polluting waterways or contributing to climate change. Household food waste is one of the world’s biggest contributors to climate change, so biodigestors are a win-win!
“I’m thrilled and honored to be nominated for the ‘Women in Biogas’ award. It’s usually women in rural, impoverished communities who do the dangerous work of collecting firewood and then breathe the harmful smoke from their fires while cooking. This award recognizes that biodigestors are not only great for the environment, but for women’s empowerment, as well.”
Solar CITIES (https://solarcities.solutions/) offers tours of the biodigestors at their Glenmoore farm and Kelsey[LH4] is available to speak to organizations or classes about the multiple benefits of biogas. The award winners will be announced on March 29 at the AD & Biogas Industry Awards 2023 ceremony in Birmingham, UK.
