WEST CHESTER, PA (September 13, 2022) – Fifteen teams of Chester County first responders came together on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to battle it out in a BBQ-style competition hosted by The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc.  The event, only in its fourth year, sponsored by Goldberg, Goldberg & Maloney and Bio-One of Chester County, sold out in early August and drew over 250 attendees on Saturday, September 10th at the VFW Post 109 in West Chester.

Teams showcased their best BBQ in the categories of pulled pork, chicken, ribs, wings, and a specialty item. Winners in each category took home a customized trophy and more importantly, bragging rights.  Make BBQ Great Again (West Goshen Police Department) took home the top trophy for the day as the Grand Champion, and Limp Brisket (Westtown East Goshen Police Department) won the coveted People’s Choice Award.  Judges for the event included Police and Fire Chiefs from around the County as well as guests of honor.

The host and beneficiary of the event was The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc. For the fourth year, it was spearheaded by Detective Sergeant Dave Maurer, a member of CVC’s Board of Directors and the West Goshen Police Department.  A.J. Blosenski, Inc., a fourth generation family owned and operated local company generously donated a dumpster for the second year in a row.

Attendees of the event paid just $25 to sample food from all the competing teams, enjoyed live music by Kevin Windstein, a display of local fire trucks and equipment, and participated in a raffle.

Tom Gervasio, owner of Bio-One of Chester County, the event sponsor since its inaugural year said, “This is my favorite event of the year!  Not only is it supporting the incredible work that CVC, local law enforcement, and first responders do to keep our community safe but the food is always fantastic and it’s a ton of fun.  Can’t wait for next year!”

The event was presented by CVC Premier Community Partner Goldberg, Goldberg & Maloney and Event Sponsor Bio-One of Chester County.  It was also supported by CVC Community Partners Bentley Systems, Brandywine Valley HVAC, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Janoski Law, EZ Pizzi Cleaning and Benchmark Federal Credit Union.  It was sponsored by Foresight Technologies, Barbacane Thornton & Co., Divorce Wealth Strategies, Krapf Buses, WSFS, Kohler Law Offices, LLC, Pettine Law Offices, LLC, Allstate – Teri Smith Agency, MacElree Harvey, The Moore Maguire Group, FOP Lodge 11 and The Riley Company.
