Habitat for Humanity of Chester County (HfHCC) is joining the United Nations and organizations around the world on October 5th for World Habitat Day to raise awareness, educate, and mobilize individuals and communities to take action regarding the current global housing crisis.

Throughout the month of October, Habitat will draw attention to the important role affordable housing plays in removing barriers to opportunity, success, and health that might have been part of a family’s life for years, if not generations.

HfHCC’s new website will have information on the importance of World Habitat Day and ways to support Habitat’s mission. They will also be launching a Virtual Build Challenge that includes easy projects that can be done as a family or independently. Participants will be invited to virtually share their build projects and will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

The Virtual Volunteer Build Challenge is a way to engage volunteers who want to be involved, but as a result of the pandemic, are not ready or able to physically be on a job site.

HfHCC depends on volunteers to help with construction as well as donations of both materials and dollars to ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable housing. When housing costs are more affordable, families have money to put toward other important household needs, as well as savings for the future. A safe, stable home changes the trajectory of lives, the wellbeing of those living in the home, and the community.

In their inaugural year of participating in World Habitat Day, HFHCC is looking forward to connecting with the community and sharing the importance of their mission. Building a foundation is more than just pouring concrete to hold a house; it’s a foundation that allows families to build strength, stability and independence. With the support of our community, together we’re building safe and secure places families can call home.
